Own a unique and genuine piece of automotive history, the Mazda RX-8 40th
Anniversary Limited Edition. A celebration of what is best about Wankel engined
Mazda introduced the limited-production 40th Anniversary RX-8 in 2008. It
features a Metropolitan Gray Mica exterior with a Cosmo Red leather interior,
unique 18-inch alloys, suspension enhancements, fog-lamps, and special badging.
It is powered by the RENESIS 13B-MSP (2-rotor, multi-side-port) Wankel engine
displacing 1.3 L (1,308 cc) non-turbo. With a 6-speed manual it has a output of
232 hp and 159 lb?ft with a 9,000 rpm redline.
The RX-8 was designed as a front mid-engine, rear-wheel drive four-door,
four-seater quad coupe. The car has 50:50 front-rear weight distribution and a
low polar moment of inertia, achieved by mounting the engine behind the front
axle and the fuel tank ahead of the rear axle.
Motor Trend Magazine comments: delivers turbine-smooth acceleration and
immense handling benefits directly attributable to the Wankel engine. First, it
weighs less than a similarly powerful V-6, so there's less car to accelerate,
brake, or turn. Second, it's so much smaller than an overhead-cam vee or inline
engine so it can be packaged lower in the car, dropping the overall center of
gravity and making the car less likely to roll in corners. One thing's for
sure: No other sporting car on the planet sounds and feels anything like any
Mazda Wankel-powered vehicle.
