The Islander 230 is a “NEW” FRP (fiberglass) diesel powered motor skiff,
designed and “hand crafted” by Craig Pelley ( Award winning boat designer) of
Pelley Marine (Transport Canada registered Boat Builder) as an economically
operated and sea friendly alternative to the high powered modern “speed boat”.
An attempted nod to the traditional Newfoundland motor boat look was at the
heart of the styling but with a more modern and efficient approach to lines.
The fine entry bow lines minimize resistance and reduce slamming while the
moderate dead rise hard chine hull form maintains good efficient cruising
speeds and excellent initial stability. Keeping the overall beam to a practical
minimum also contributed to comfortable sea keeping as well as overall cursing
efficiency.
Designed for comfort as well as efficiency, the Islander 230 has a cuddy cabin
forward with “V” berths to accommodate two adults. Seating for eight is
provided outside of the cuddy cabin including two upholstered captain’s chairs.
Stowage lockers are found throughout the boat in the rear, amidships and
forward cuddy.
Structurally, the custom FRP hand laid hull utilizes four massive longitudinal
stringers as well as transverse bulkheads that securely connect the hull bottom
to the deck. This arrangement insures excellent strength and stiffness. Hull
thicknesses vary from 3/8” surrounding the keel line, 5/16” up to the chine and
1/4” topsides.
